Home phone setup - Cisco 7961 or 7970:
Items Required:
- Cisco 7961 or 7970 IP Phone
- Cisco power adapter
- Broadband internet access.
- Router (or Switch w/ a DHCP server) ***
***A Switch or Router with a DHCP server is required so that your computer and/or other devices can connect to the internet at the same time as the phone.
To setup the Cisco phone 7970 at home, perform the following:
- Plug in the power adapter and Ethernet cable going to your router - press 'Settings'
- Scroll down to 2, 'Network Configuration'
- Press * * #, and then click on the 'Erase'
- Wait about 5 minutes.
- Press 'Settings' again.
- Press 2 for 'Network Configuration'
- Press 24 for 'Alternate TFTP'
- Press * * #, and then click on the 'Yes', DON'T click 'Save' at this point.
- Press 8 for 'TFTP Server1'
- Press 'Edit', change to the TFTP server provided to you by Epik Networks (i.e. 123.456.789.345), press ‘Validate’ and then press 'Save'.
Wait upto 10 more minutes, and the phone will come up (when your extension appears, on the top right, it will be functional).
You only need to go through the above procedure once. You can follow the same procedure to get the phone working anywhere else (i.e. somebody else home, etc), basically anywhere you can connect to the internet through the Ethernet port.
